The Alpha Omega includes 2 poached eggs, smoked salmon, capers, onion, dill and avocado with toast (extra). As you can see from the picture, the presentation was not the greatest but that did not in any way translate to the taste. I actually didn’t mind the raw presentation as it reminded/gave the impression of a home cooked meal. The ingredients paired well and one can never go wrong with avocado. It was a tasty dish but not filling from my point of view. You could say it was Alpha but definitely not Omega. 😉

The café is in a residential neighbourhood (converted house) and thus is very homey and has a vintage look to it. I.e. there is bench and table right across the kitchen and behind that is a vintage glass cabinet with kitchen utensils. It’s definitely not your typical/go to café which makes it unique. Please check out RaspberryCream’s review of Luna Café for more on the place.

About the meal: The dish consisted of 2 free Run Eggs on English Muffin with Avocado, Smoked Gruyere, Red Onion and Chipotle Hollandaise, served with Greens and Homefries. Overall a pretty good and filling meal! The avocados weren’t super ripe and I found the taste of avocado and gruyere, along with the texture, very interesting with the eggs. The gruyere was very mild so all falvors were equal and in moderation. The chipotle sauce was a good addition , making this dish less dry and adding in some spice and flavor.
I did find a piece of avocado skin in there though, something to keep in mind.
The greens were ok, nothing out of the ordinary, but I enjoyed the dressing it was served with. The homefries again were nothing out of the ordinary, but good nevertheless.
About the place: I was afraid of the wait (seeing as we went at a “popular time” according to Google) but it really wasn’t so bad. We barely waited 5 min to get a table. I found however the service quite expeditive – we were asked whether we were ready several times (within a short period of time) without ever being asked whether we had questions about the menu. Upon being seated, we were also not advised that only the brunch menu was avaialable. During our meal, we were never asked whether we needed anything, until the very end – we got asked if we wanted anything else. Apart from that, the service was fairly quick.
Another note: we were seated on the table by the take-out coffee space, so there was a lot of commotion happening around us. On that note, maybe not the best place to go on a first date! It looked child-friendly but I didn’t see any kids/families dining in.
About the drink:
What I love about a good mocha is the subtle sweetness of the chocolate and the subtle bitterness of the espresso. This was done just right! I was doubtful at first when I saw it served in a glass, but “never judge a book by it’s cover”! The espresso was made with good quality coffee and the chocolate was one of the refined kinds – at least it tasted like it. Approved by the #mochagirl !
